As one of our objectives to stretch out a helping hand to the less privileged by assisting them with food items and financially as the resources and needs may be, the Gracious Gifters Foundation, a youth led non-profit and apolitical organization on the 19th of February 2023 in good will and love paid a visit to the Rhema Grace Orphanage located in Ombe along the Mutengene-Limbe stretch of road, some few kilometers from Brasseries du Cameroon warehouse.
Headed by the Executive Director of the organization Miss Eneme Gift, the team arrived the orphanage at about 2:30pm and was warmly welcomed by the kids and the care taker with a welcome song. This visit tagged “Make Them Smile” was meant to celebrate the month of love with the kids of the orphanage, encourage them to gain and sustain healthy self-esteem, educate them on why they have to take their book works serious and donating items such as rice, groundnut oil, toilet roles, and other food items to the management of the orphanage for the wellbeing of the children who seem to have lost hope in life, but this hope is restored by different individuals of goodwill who visit the place.
The executive director in her talk with the children made them to understand that there are so many people one the streets whose conditions are worse than theirs but the only difference is that they live in a place called an “orphanage” she added by saying that, the children should learn to confess positivity into their lives and not always saying negative things while giving one of them a paper to read which contains writings on the importance of positive thinking and doing good. The kids were also thought that they should always be self-sufficient and not want to be like others.
The kids of the orphanage face a lot of challenges starting from the infrastructures, a number of them in dilapidated states and from observations, there is high need for re-construction so as to create a better living environment for the children. At different corners of the orphanage were seen uncompleted projects like toilet, refectory, etc. which were debuted by individuals of good will but how ever now stand as ruins as they have been abandoned for years.
While finding out from the over 40 children and their care taker about some of the challenges they face and what they need that the foundation might on their next visit. With a tour around the orphanage, the following needs and challenges were noted by the foundation.
- Bible
- White cane for a visually impaired
- Books (novels etc.)
- Bong Beds (kids sleep on the floor)
- Bed sheets
- Curtains
- Toilet
- Dresses
- Buckets
- Benches for their classes
- Renovation of their dormitories and classes just to name a few.All these are a total shout out for help and they will greatly acknowledge all the help they can get.
It should be noted that living a memorable life of earth, includes the lives of others. Putting a smile on one another’s face, and for which we will always be remembered for. Circumstances have made it that in the society, we have the privileged and underprivileged, and it is rather unfortunate that we cannot make a choice on which side to belong. However, it is possible for us to strike a balance between both sides, by loving one another, sharing the little we have.
